BAGUIO CITY – The Baguio City Jail – female dormitory reportedly enhanced its educational support to the detained persons deprived of liberty (PDLs) to improve their employability in the future once they join mainstream society.
Senior Jail Officer (SJO) 4 Racquel Tengay, assistant warden of the Baguio City Jail – female dormitory, said that the aforesaid initiative fosters personal growth and empowers the PDLs to seek viable paths towards a better future once they go back to mainstream society.
She asserted that the facility continues to implement the Alternative Learning System (ALS) program that has provided educational opportunities to PDLs who wish to pursue academic goals.
At present, the female dormitory has two junior high school students enrolled in face to face learning and three senior high school students enrolled in virtual learning.
She pointed out that the facility also fully supports the College Education Behind Bars (CEBB) program where there are two PDLs who are enrolled in the Bachelor of Public Administration and the Bachelor of Science in Tourism Management programs through blended learning.
The lady jail officer expressed the facility’s gratitude to the local government for its unwavering support and dedication to sustain the development of the facility and the welfare of the PDLs.
She added that the assistance being provided by the city has been instrumental in the facility’s overall achievements and efforts towards development and community integration.
She also thanked the city officials for recognizing the importance of the work of the jail personnel and for the facility’s commitment to enhancing the lives of those under the care of the facility.
Tengay assured that the Baguio City Jail – female dormitory remains steadfast in its mission to provide a safe, supportive and rehabilitative environment for all PDLs and that through their collective efforts, the facility had achieved numerous milestones that underscore their commitment to improving the lives of those they care for.
