BAGUIO CITY – Members of the Filipino-Chinese community assured their uncompromising and unwavering support to the local government and residents of the city in the implementation of programs, projects and activities geared towards promoting the welfare of the greater majority of the populace.
Peter Ng, Chairman of this year’s Chinese Lunar New Year organizing committee, said that over the past two decades of having jointly celebrated the Chinese New Year, the Filipino-Chinese community and residents were able to strengthen their bond as a unified people of the city being able to work together through thick and thin.
He expressed his gratitude to the local government for having institutionalized the annual celebration of the Chinese New Year in the city that paved the way for a healthy exchange of culture and traditions among the Chinese and Filipino people in the city.
“We are elated that our annual joint celebration of the Chinese New Year has gone this far. We remain committed to be the partners of the local government and the people of Baguio in helping the city move up to greater heights,” Ng stressed.
The owner of Hotel Supreme claimed that the Filipino-Chinese community in the city will always be at the forefront of extending whatever assistance possible to the local government and the people during situations that warrant the same to show their commitment of being true and dedicated partners in sustainable growth and development through the years.
Earlier, Mayor Mauricio G. Domogan commended the Filipino-Chinese community in the city for their continuous support to the local government and the people, especially during emergency situations where they are always ready to extend whatever assistance that is needed to allow the residents to hurdle the difficulties that they were able to encounter.
The local chief executive pointed out that even if they are not called upon to extend assistance, the Filipino-Chinese community is always ready to provide a helping hand to allow victims of calamities to rise up and recover from their bizarre experience in life.
Baguio City was the first local government in the country to institutionalize the annual celebration of the Chinese New Year in the city with the enactment of Ordinance No. 18, series of 1999 that paved the way for a joint collaboration between the city and the Filipino-Chinese community in celebrating the Lunar New Year.
Among the traditional activities lined up for the annual celebration of the Chinese New Year includes the barangay gift-giving activity in Pinsao Pilot project, a similar community gift-giving event at the Bell Church, the Chinese New Year parade, and the testimonial dinner for the Filipino-Chinese community.
Ng claimed the Filipino-Chinese community will sustain providing whatever assistance that will be given to those indigent residents of the different barangays through various civic-oriented activities because they want to share to them the blessings of peace and prosperity for them to be resilient in combatting the difficulties of life.
In the afternoon of February 6, 2918, the annual Chinese New Year parade will be conducted from the top of Session Road up to the Melvin Jones grandstand wherein the Filipino-Chinese community will be giving away candies and goodies to the public along the parade route.
