ALFONSO LISTA, Ifugao – A 55-year old fisherman died after he allegedly drowned in the reservoir of the Magat dam when he went fishing at barangay Sto. Domingo here early Sunday morning.
Senior Superintendent Constancio Chinayog, Jr., officer-in-charge of the Ifugao Provincial Police Office, identified the victim as Victor Juan Viernes Sr., 55, married, fisherman and a resident of Namillangan, Alfonso Lista Ifugao.
Initial police investigation showed the victim reportedly left their house carrying with him fishing equipment early Sunday morning but his brother was surprised to receive a cellular phone call from his friend, who is an employee of the Magat dam management, informing him that his brother was seen lifeless on the northeast embankment of the reservoir.
He was immediately rushed by rescuers to the Potia District Hospital but he was declared dead on arrival by attending physicians.
Elements of the Scene of the Crime Operation Team found no signs of external injuries on the victim’s body which indicated that there was no foul play on his untimely demise.
