TAYUM, Abra – A 49-year old fisherman died after he was struck by a lightning while preparing his fish net along the Abra river, particularly at barangay Deet here around 5:30 pm Tuesday.
Senior Superintendent Antonio Bartolome, provincial director of the Abra Provincial Police Office, identified the fatality as Maximo Alagao Tacanay, 49, married, a farmer and fisherman and a resident of barangay Deet, Tayum, Abra.
Initial police investigation showed the victim was seen by concerned residents casting his fish net along a portion of the Abra river when a strong lightning suddenly struck him that caused him to suffer from third degree burns on the different parts of his body.
He was immediately rushed by concerned residents to the Abra Provincial Hospital but he was pronounced dead on arrival by attending physicians due to multiple burnt injuries on the different parts of his body.
