FLORA, Apayao – Flora LGU led by Mayor Rodolfo B. Juan was feted as ‘Fully Compliant awardee’ for the prestigious 24th Gawad KALASAG, following its outstanding performance rating in the six (6) indicators of DRRM functionality assessment.
The municipality belonged to the 55 Regional Awardees in CAR this year, the RDRRMC disclosed on Wednesday, Dec.4.
The Gawad KALASAG (KAlamidad at Sakuna LAbanan, SAriling Galing ang Kaligtasan) was institutionalized to recognize exemplary performance of LDCCs, private/volunteer organizations, local, national and international NGOs, donor agencies, and the communities as major stakeholders in implementing significant DRM projects and activities and, in providing humanitarian response and assistance to affected communities.
Said program also aims to recognize individuals, groups or institutions that have shown extraordinary courage, heroism, self-sacrifice, and bravery in times of natural and human-made emergencies and disasters.
Mayor Juan said the LGU has satisfactorily performed and passed the assessment which include DRRM structure, competency, management system, enabling policies, knowledge management and advocacy, and partnership and participation – all centered-on saving and protecting lives against disasters.
With the effort of all offices and personnel, Mayor Juan said, Flora LGU was able to be included in the list of awardees.
The mayor promised to continuously promote and implement efficient disaster response operations, ensuring the safety and welfare of the townspeople.
At present, the LGU is conducting distributions of relief assistance to all affected households in the municipality, in response to the recent typhoons.
The municipalities of Santa Marcela, Flora, Luna, Calanasan, Conner, Kabugao and the Province of Apayao are also recipients of said award as ‘Fully Compliant.’ By Arjay Baysa
