BAGUIO CITY — Innovation, resourcefulness, and creativity radiated from seven young participants in the Flower Arrangement Competition at Rose Garden, Burnham Park, Baguio City.
The Baguio Flower Festival Foundation Inc. (BFFFI) started the Floral Arrangement and Dish Garden Competition simultaneously on February 15, 2025 to boost active participation among the youth.
“This competition serves as a platform for student and participant artistic skills, and appreciation of the beauty of flowers and plants. It also highlighted the importance of acknowledging the use of eco-friendly and recyclable materials to showcase the urgency of caring for the environment,” BFFFI Flower Arrangement and Dish Garden Competition host Cedrick Dominong announced during the pre-event briefing.
The design criteria encouraged creativity and child innovation, adherence to the theme, aesthetic appeal and colorfulness, technique and simplicity, and use of upcycled materials.
The artistic arrangements should fit within a 50cm x 50cm x 50cm space, suitable for display and handling of the young participants.
Taking inspiration from February, a month of love, Jhacy Angela Matley Herman, one of the young participants, arranged her design in a timely and expressive manner.
“Just like her title “semek,” which means “love,” this little girl of mine wants to spread love. So just like her masterpiece, it’s a holistic view of spreading love to everyone kay ganyan ang ginawa n’ya,” Baguio local resident and parent of the participant Claire Herman said.
As the judging of the designs came to a close, the public viewing began at 10:30 AM, where the masterpieces of the young participants were open for the onlookers to admire and enhance their visual experiences up close. By Dessa Joi Peralta
