LA TRINIDAD, Benguet – Presumptive Vice Governor Marierose ‘Betbet’ Fongwan-Kepes wants the incoming batch of local legislators to be a working board for the sustained crafting of policies supporting the implementation of impactful programs and projects by the local chief executive.
Fongwan-Kepes, who was recently proclaimed by the provincial board of canvassers as the winning vice gubernatorial candidate, was overwhelmingly chosen by the province’s electorate to serve as the presiding officer of the next batch of members comprising the provincial board.
The incumbent senior boardmember pointed out that the updating and codification of the province’s ordinances will be one of the major priorities of the next batch of boardmembers to ensure that said local laws will be attune to the current situation of the province and the fast changing times.
She pointed out that the various committees should all be working bodies to help in achieving the goals and objectives of the flagship program of the provincial government under the stewardship of Gov. Melchor Diclas who was also re-elected to serve his third consecutive term as the province’s local chief executive.
According to her, whatever current initiatives that had ben put in place by Vice governor Ericson ‘Tagel’ Felipe that were proven to be working and are aligned with her desire to make the body as a working board will be maintained and enhanced while there will be changes that will be introduced to further improve the crafting of ordinances and resolutions that will be beneficial to the greater majority of the Benguet people.
Fongwan-Kepes expressed her family’s sincerest gratitude to the people of Benguet for their trust and confidence by overwhelmingly voting for her to be the province’s next vice governor and assured them that she will do her best to fulfill her campaign promise of making the local legislative body as a working board.
The incoming lady vice governor garnered more than 116,000 votes during the May 12, 2025 mid-term elections that made her a ran away winner in the vice gubernatorial race.
She stipulated that the provincial board will closely work with the local chief executive to guarantee the desired implementation of various programs, projects and activities to advance the province’s development and elevate to a higher level Benguet’s status in the future. By Dexter A. See
