BANGUED, Abra – A former mayor of a town in this conflict-stricken province died after he was allegedly shot by still unidentified gunmen in front of his residence at barangay Dangdangla, here, Tuesday.
Police authorities identified the fatality as Jendricks Seares Luna, 54, former Mayor of Lagayan, Abra and a candidate for member of the provincial board during the May 12, 2025 mid-term elections.
Initial police investigation showed that the victim was seated at a kiosk outside his residence when four still unidentified armed individuals on board two motorcycles approached him and suddenly shot him several times before fleeing from the crime scene.
His relatives and concerned residents rushed the victim to the Seares Memorial hospital but he was declared dead on arrival by attending physicians.
He sustained multiple gunshot wounds in the different parts of his body that caused his instantaneous death.
Police personnel immediately launched an aggressive manhunt operation to apprehend the suspects.
