BAGUIO CITY – Former Mayor Mauricio G. Domogan assured city residents that his trademark of compassionate and caring leadership will reign once the electorate will give him another chance to become the mayor of the country’s undisputed Summer Capital in the upcoming May 9, 2022 synchronized national and local elections.
He disclosed that he contested for the city’s mayoralty post in the upcoming elections because of the clamor of numerous sectors who were reportedly deprived of access to the various government offices and the compassion and care that he had shown to the city residents when he was the local chief executive from 1992-2001, as the city’s lawmaker from 2001-2010 and as the local chief executive from 2010-2019.
Domogan underscored that the people already know his ability to lead the city to recover from disasters just as what happened to Baguio which rose from the rubbles of the July 16, 1990 killer earthquake that is why with the active participation of concerned stakeholders and the residents, the city can rebound from the heavy impact inflicted by the ongoing Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic.
The former mayor claimed that once given the chance to lead the city after the May polls, he will make City Hall offices accessible to the people to freely conduct their transactions and that he will not make it difficult for various sectors to deal with the various offices of the city government just as what he had done.
According to him, good governance and transparency will continue to be practiced but with compassion aside from introducing the appropriate innovations that will help elevate the status of the city as one of the most competitive cities in the country.
Domogan underscored the importance of the city government having to effectively and efficiently address both urban decay and human decay to achieve the overall goal of preserving and protecting the city’s identity as the country’s undisputed Summer Capital.
Domogan is known as one of the city’s leaders who spearheaded the rehabilitation of Baguio from the rubbles of the 1990 killer earthquake with the able assistance of former Rep. and Mayor Bernardo M. Vergara that paved the city to become a Hall of Fame awardee in the Search for Cleanest and Greenest Highly Urbanized City, among other numerous awards and recognitions.
Domogan stated he will always keep his office to open to people from all walks of life who want to personally talk to him on their issues and concerns that need immediate action from him so that they can feel that city officials are in control of the situation like what had been happening in the past.
During his stint as the local chief executive and lawmaker, Domogan was awarded as the Most Outstanding mayor and Most Outstanding Congressman for a number of times that brought honor and pride to the city.
He said that the people of Baguio already know him and know how he deals with them and the problems that the city had been encountering over the past several decades.
