LA TRINIDAD, Benguet – former Senator Manuel Mar Roxas expressed his gratitude to Anti-Crime and Terroirsm through Community Involvement and Support (ACT-CIS) Party-list Repo. Eric Yap for the latter’s unwavering assistance extended to the former lawmakers Kasimanwas in Capiz since the start of the Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic to date.
In his letter to Congressman Yap dated April 29, 2022, Roxas, who was also the former Trade and Industry and Interior and Local government Secretary during the previous administration, stated that the Benguet caretaker congressman was always present to extend help to the people of Capiz, especially when Typhoon Agaton struck the Mindanao and Visayas regions early this year.
“Maraming maraming Salamat. Tunay ka na public servant. Bagamat hindi kami makakaboto para sa’yo, maaasahan mo ang aming good wishes at pasasalamat,” Roxas stressed in the said letter.
The letter of the former Senator and Secretary is just among the numerous communications sent to Congressman Yap’s office that came from various local governments expressing their gratitude to the lawmaker for his generosity in extending assistance to the people in calamity-stricken areas in the different parts of the country.
Roxas is the cousin of the wife of Benguet Rep. Ronald M. Cosalan who graduated as the province’s Representative to the House of Representatives in 2019.
On January 20, 2020, Congressman Yap was appointed as the province’s legislative caretaker in lieu of the late Rep. Nestor B. Fongwan, Sr. who succumbed to a lingering illness on December 18, 2019.
Since assuming the post as legislative caretaker, Congressman Yap was able to effectively and efficiently perform his duties and responsibilities, especially at the height of the COVId-19 pandemic where he was able to infuse numerous assistance using his personal and government resources to be able to extend assistance to the residents who had been heavily impacted by the prevalence of the pandemic.
He assured that he will continue to work hard to source out the appropriate funds to enhance the delivery of basic services and implement high impact development projects that will be beneficial in uplifting the status of the province to a first-class province in the future.
Yap owns the distinction of being the first neophyte lawmaker in Philippine Congress history to be appointed and voted upon as the chairman of the powerful House committee on appropriations which is one of the most prestigious committees in the House of Representatives.
He was also the previous chairman of the House committee on games and amusements before being named to the powerful House committee on appropriations.
