BAGUIO CITY – The Fertilizer and Pesticide Authority (FPA) Cordillera continues to warn farmers and traders on the presence of fertilizers in the Cordillera Administrative Region (CAR) that are presently suspended for use.
FPA CAR Regional Officer Rogelio Tanguid explained that there are fertilizer brands that were issued with certificate of product registration but production of which were suspended, and those fertilizers issued with suspension cannot be used by farmers and sold by traders to prevent the negative effects they may cause to their plants and gardens.
“The reason for suspending the production of those fertilizers was based on the results of the laboratory tests which showed a very low nutrient content. We continue to ask the public to report and refrain from patronizing these products that might be circulating in the region to combat its proliferation,” Tanguid said.
The regional officer of the FPA-CAR is encouraging the public to browse the FPA website at fpa.da.gov.ph and to be friends of the FB page of the region ( FPA-CAR) to be regularly updated most especially on the list of suspended, banned, and registered fertilizer and pesticide products.
The FPA issued a suspension order to local fertilizer manufacturers found non-compliant with FPA rules and regulations, specifically, those who have products that are below 98% of the declared guaranteed analysis, and ordered these manufacturers to recall or pull out their products in the market, with FPA to provide them with corrective actions that they should undertake.
At present, there are six laboratories that conducts fertilizer and pesticide testing and analysis including pesticide residue which are located in Makati City, Mandaluyong City, Pasig City, Dasmarinas Cavite, Cagayan De Oro City, and Polomolok, South Cotabato.
Studies show that plants not receiving adequate supply of nutrients may cause productivity problems.
