CALANASAN, Apayao – In observance of National Cervical Cancer Awareness Month, a free cervical cancer screening was held on May 29, 2025, at the EKB Sports Complex in Poblacion, Calanasan, Apayao.
The activity was carried out through the joint efforts of the Department of Health, the Provincial Health Office of Apayao, the Far North Luzon General Hospital and Training Center, the Calanasan Rural Health Unit, Apayao District Hospital, and the Philippine Obstetrical and Gynecological Society.
The event offered important reproductive health services for women, including Visual Inspection using Acetic Acid (VIAA), Clinical Breast Examination (CBE), and OB-GYNE consultations.
A total of 72 women were served during the activity, 48 availed of both VIAA and CBE, 23 underwent CBE only, and two received OB-GYNE consultations.
The program highlighted the importance of early detection in reducing cervical cancer risk, especially among women in geographically isolated and underserved areas. By Loremia Pareja
