yApayaos can ride for free on electric tricycles (e-trike) as part of the province’s Foundation Day celebration from February 10 – 13, 2025.
This is through the initiative of the Department of Science and Technology – Cordillera (DOST-CAR) and Provincial Science and Technology Office – Apayao (PSTO – Apayao) in partnership with Cagayan State University (CSU).
The e-trike will operate along the route from Apayao State College (ASC) Luna Campus in San Isidro Sur to Apayao Eco-Tourism and Sports Complex (AETSC) in San Gregorio.
These battery-powered vehicles offer a cleaner and quieter alternative to traditional tricycles, reducing both air and noise pollution.
Further, technology showcase will take place on February 10 at 1:00PM at AETSC, where experts will discuss the science behind the e-trike system, its potential for local public transport, and its contribution to sustainable mobility. The showcase will likewise demonstrate the charging infrastructure and operational efficiency of e-trike.
This is part of the ongoing efforts to support the Apayao UNESCO Biosphere Reserve and to promote clean energy solutions in line with SMART (Science Made Accessible, Relevant, and Timely) mobility program of the DOST. By Diocen Tolentino
