Cordilleran fighter Dayer Gabutan failed to wrest the World Boxing Council (WBC) Silver Title when he succumbed to a fifth round knockout against Chinese super bantamweight superstar Qiu Xiao Jun in Yu Hang Gym, in Hangzhou, China last September 11, 2015.
WBC.com reports that Jun started strongly to steak to a comfortable lead after four rounds before unleashing a powerful flurry that backed Gabutan onto the ropes in round 5. A hard punch to the head knocked down Gabutan and he was unable to rise. Referee Yuji Fukuchi (Japan) ended the contest 2 minutes 11 seconds into the fifth round.
Jun was comfortably ahead in the score cards of the three judges when the stoppage occurred. Jerrold Tomeldan of the Philippines had it 39-37, Hubert Minn of the United States had it 40-37 while Zanashir Taznaa of Mongolia had it 39-37.
Gabutan, a previous World Boxing Organization (WBO) Oriental Bantamwieght Champion, dropped to 19-5-3 with 10 knockouts. He hast now lost four of his five last fights including an International Boxing Federation (IBF) title eliminator to Vusi Malinga in Gauteng, South Africa on March 23, 2013 and Takahiro Shigee in Tokyo, Japan on August 25, 2013.
His last victory came against Mike Espanosa last October 10, 2014 here in la Trinidad. Espanosa was the same boxer who fought during the Fight for Glory earlier this month.
Meanwhile Jun improved his record to 18-2 with 8 knockouts. He is said to in to make his European debut sometime this November.
