BONTOC, Mountain Province – A 28-year old German National died while four other foreigners were injured after their raft hit a rock and tilted along the Chico river causing them to be thrown off the river system at Chaklikan Chakso, Bontoc Ili, here, Tuesday.
Senior Superintendent Cornelio Comila, officer-in-charge of the Mountain Province Provincial Police Office, identified the fatality as Judith Kiesl, 28, single while he named her injured companions as Arian Grischa Herbig, 30 single, Christopher Sebastian Kaufmann, 28, single, Paul Jonathan Roch, 28, single, residents of Claustorwall 33, Goslar, Dasselstr 55, Cologui, Alh Eppelheimer St, 27. 69115.
Initial police investigation showed that the foreigners, together with their foreign and local tour guides, went on rafting along the Chico river that started in Dantay, Alab Oreinte, here and upon reaching the place of incident, their raft allegedly hit a rock that caused the same to capsize throwing its occupants into the rampaging waters.
During the accounting of the occupants, the victim was found to have gone missing, thus, search and rescue operations were conducted until her lifeless body was found in between two rocks under water.
She was rushed to the Bontoc General Hospital for medical treatment but she was declared dead on arrival by attending physicians due to hypoxia.
The cadaver of the victim was brought to Baguio City and for transport to the German embassy in Manila.
