PUDTOL, Apayao – Gilas Pilipinas sensation Renz ‘Lakay’ Abando will grace the opening program of the 9th Pinya Festival Sports Tournament on May 28, 2024, in EKB Memorial Gymnasium in Poblacion, Pudtol, Mayor Hector Pascua announced.
In his Facebook post, Mayor Pascua expressed his excitement about the guest appearance of the fan-favorite Gilas Pilipinas stalwart.
“Abangan! Lakay Renz Abando of Gilas Pilipinas will inspire our athletes on May 28, 2024, at the EKB Memorial Gym. Ampayag Pudtol! Apayao Ipasindayaw!” the post read.
The high-flying Filipino import announced on his social media on Thursday, May 23, that he will not be returning to the Anyang Jung Kwan Jang Red Boosters for the 2024-2025 Korean Basketball League (KBL) season after spending two seasons with the ball club.
After leading Colegio de San Juan de Letran to a championship in National Collegiate Athletic Association Season 97, Abando chose to forgo his final playing year with the CSJL Knights and signed with Anyang in July 2022.
He had notable seasons with the KBL squad, winning the KBL championship and the East Asia Super League Champions Week title in his rookie year. Additionally, he claimed the slam dunk championship crown last year. By JCM
