LUNA, Apayao — Renowned law professor and 2008 Bar topnotcher Atty. Judy A. Lardizabal instilled a heart moving statement to the new members of the Integrated Bar of the Philippines (IBP)–Apayao Chapter, challenging them to ponder upon their sense of purpose in the legal profession.
The statement was made during the testimonial dinner held at the Aliwa gymnasium on August 30, 2024 made to recognize the new bar passers in the province of Apayao.
“Go back to your purpose, to all your “whys” and “hows”; there is always the question “for whom”, para kanino ba tayo naging abogado? Definitely the answer is always something exceeding our SELVES and always going back to the sense of duty to offer the profession para sa pamilya, para sa bayan at para sa panginoon,” Lardizabal underscored.
In her keynote speech as the guest speaker, Lardizabal recounted how sacrifices and determination have led to where she is now, encouraging the new lawyers that they too can conquer whatever challenges they may face ahead.
Lardizabal also shared that in her fourteen years as a law professor, she has witnessed the many journeys of law students and their struggles before they became fully fledged lawyers.
“Your sacrifices paid off. This is not just a celebration of your achievements but also an acknowledgment of the path you have chosen. You are now part of a profession that demands not only legal expertise but also commitment to ethical practice and service to the community,” said Lardizabal.
She likewise emphasized the importance of the legal profession, saying that practicing law is a calling, a commitment, and a catalyst of change.
The testimonial dinner was attended by prominent figures from the legal profession, including trial court judges, and senior lawyers. The event was also graced by the presence of government officials, academy representatives, members of the bar, and the family and friends of the honorees.
Lardizabal concluded her speech by offering words of reminders to the new lawyers, saying
“A title does not define a person, a name is but a name. We did not choose this profession for monuments and accolades. May you never forget that being a lawyer transcends self-interest. It entails sacrifice and enduring dedication. Let our mark be faithfulness to our oath—to work towards promoting the rule of law, to courageously work for justice, and safeguard rights and meaningful freedoms.”
The IBP Apayao Chapter led by Atty. Zaide Ravelo, meantime, extended their gratitude to Lardizabal for her time and for sharing her wisdom. The chapter also commended the officers for organizing a successful event that celebrated the accomplishments of the new lawyers. By Joyce Arian Soria
