LUNA, Apayao – As Typhoon Enteng intensifies, Governor Elias C. Bulut Jr. ordered his officials, members of the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction Management Office (PDRRMO) team, the Social Welfare and Development Office, and other frontline national agencies to coordinate and act with immediacy to lessen negative impacts of whatever the tropical storm may bring.
Storm signal number 2 is now raised over the province of Apayao, along with Cagayan, Ilocos Norte, parts of Kalinga, Isabela, Quirino and Aurora, which could possibly result in flashfloods and landslides.
In his directive on September 2, 2024, Bulut instructed the immediate prepositioning of equipment and supplies in critical and low-lying areas. He also advised monitoring of the water level, roads, bridges, and places which are frequently hit by flooding to execute timely evacuation when necessary.
PDRRMO Chief Jeoffrey Borromeo confirmed prepositioning of 6×6 trucks to low-lying areas for transport and is now coordinating with the Provincial Engineering Office for other heavy equipment to be ready for use.
Apayao is one of the provinces in the Cordilleras which experiences landslides and flooding during typhoons.
In July last year, strong winds and heavy downpour of rains brought by Super Typhoon Egay caused a huge landslide in Barangay Butao, Calanasan. The landslide claimed six lives, totally wrecking houses. In other municipalities some homes were hit by fallen trees and swamped by flood, with over 1,774 displaced yApayao families which forced the provincial government to declare a state of calamity.
Governor Bulut Jr. advised all yApayaos to be on alert and to keep safe until the threat of the typhoon is over. By Apayao PIO
