LINGAYEN, Pangasinan – Governor Amado “Pogi” I. Espino III congratulated a Pangasinense student who was among the three students who comprised the Pilippines team that bagged the 1st runner-up spot in the 7th Association of Southeast Asian Nation (ASEAN) Friendly Group Quiz Competition held from recently in Vientiane, Laos.
Nadine Margaret Alejo, a 10th grader of the St. Albert the Great School (SAGS) in Dagupan City, was among the three students that represented the country’s team. The other two came from the province of Cagayan and the National Capital Region (NCR).
Accompanied by her coach and school principal in a courtesy call to the Governor recently the 16-year-old student said she is very happy and proud of what she has achieved.
As a first-timer in quiz competition, the young lass said she is thankful that the Philippine team made it to the 1st runner-up position even as she noted that she is more inspired to do better next time.
Meanwhile, Vic Agbayani, Alejo’s coach, said this is the fifth time that SAGS has produced a smart student who made it to the national and international quiz tilt. The first of which, he revealed, was way back in 2002.
School Principal Adelaida Carvajal, on the other hand, lauded the student and the coach for making it to the international competition.
As a show of support, a cash incentive was given by the Governor to the quiz genius.
Excluding the Philippines, there were nine other member countries that vied for the championship slot. Each team was represented by three students. Laos, the host country, emerged as the champion.
