MANKAYAN, Benguet August 22 – An 8-year old Grade 4 pupil died after he was rammed over by a closed van that allegedly moved backward while travelling along the Mankayan-Abatan road, particularly at Poblacion, here, Monday.
Police authorities identified the fatality as Jever Colse Sayud alias Senly, 8, grade IV pupil, and a resident of Payeo, Bedbed, Mankayan, Benguet while the suspect was named as the closed van driver Ryan Brent Silipen Camba, 21, single, and a resident of Otocan Norte, Bauko, Mountain Province.
Initial police investigation showed the closed van was travelling along the road when it suddenly moved backward that resulted to the said incident that caused the victim’s instantaneous death.
According to the driver, he saw the victim on the right side of the road through his vehicle’s side mirror running down the road and did not know how he was rammed over by his vehicle.
The driver immediately rushed the victim to the Mankayan rural health unit for medical treatment but he was pronounced dead on arrival by attending physicians due to multiple head and body injuries.
The suspect is now under the custody of the Mankayan Municipal Police Station awaiting the filing of the appropriate charges against him before the provincial prosecutor’s office.
