SAN JUAN, Abra – A 14-year old Grade 6 pupil died after she allegedly drowned in the Malanas River at Barbarsic, Baug, here, Saturday.
Police authorities identified the fatality as Jane Mendoza, 14 years old, Grade 6 pupil at Lam-ag Elementary School, and a resident of Sitio Barbarsic, Barangay Baug, San Juan, Abra.
Initial police investigation showed the victim, together with his other minor companions, went to the Malanas river to swim but some of her companions did not swim after noticing the strong water current.
Despite the strong water current and the advise of her colleagues not to swim, she allegedly swam towards the center of the river that caused her to be drowned.
The victim was later recovered and subjected to first aid treatment and was rushed to the Abra Provincial Hospital after the non-availability of attending physicians at the Dolores Medical Clinic but she was later pronounced dead on arrival by attending physicians.
