BAGUIO CITY – City officials recently commended the five trainers of the Girl Scouts of the Philippines (GSP) Baguio chapter for saving the life of a visitor from Nueva Ecija who was experiencing symptoms of heart attack last December 14, 2024 along the Baguio General Hospital (BGH) flyover.
In a resolution authored by Councilors Betty Lourdes F. Tabanda and Vladimir Cayabas, city legislators stated that the local government commends the five GSP–Baguio chapter trainers for their life-saving humanitarian act exhibited by concerned residents.
On December 14, 2024 at around 11:30 am, a man who was experiencing shortness of breath and was in terrible pain caught the attention of five girl scout trainers along the BGH flyover.
The trainers quickly responded and aided the man by conducting first aid and survival techniques to the individual who was already losing consciousness and can hardly breath.
Further, the trainers also sought the help of bystanders and called the attention of some police officers in the area because it seemed that the man was about to lose his life.
The GSP–Baguio chapter trainers continued to apply first aid without let up until help from a rescue group came.
The council pointed out that the man was revived due to the quick response of the five GSP trainers who exerted all their efforts to save the man’s life in time.
The survivor was later identified as a visitor from Nueva Ecija and the five GSP trainers who saved him were Julie P. Tecag, a teacher of the Irisan National High School; Norbie D. Lumiqued, a teacher of the Elpidio R. Quirino Elementary School; Julie B Pascua, a teacher from Rizal Elementary School; Teresita Castellano, a teacher from Josefa Carin֮o Elementary School and Teodora Botis, principal of the Roxas Elementary School along Marcos highway.
The council asserted that the life-saving skills of the five GSP trainers and the virtues of kindness by their timely actions and deep concern for the life of others exemplifies a character true to the spirit of Baguio as a Character City.
Copies of the approved resolution will be transmitted to the GS-Baguio chapter and the five trainers for information, guidance, ready reference and further needed action. By Dexter A. See
