BAGUIO CITY – The Baguio City Police Office (BCPO) described the observance of the Holy Week in the city as generally peaceful because no major untoward incident was reported from April 13-19.
BCPO public information officer Police Maj. Marcy Grace Marron claimed that the generally peaceful observance of the Holy Week in the city could be attributed to the intensified law enforcement operations coupled with the cooperation of the residents and visitors that resulted in the sustained safety and security of the public.
She claimed that multiple police operations were conducted during the week that resulted in various arrests of lawless elements and the strict enforcement of the pertinent provisions of Republic Act (RA) 9165 or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002 and RA 10591 or the Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunitions Regulation Act.
Further, the BCPO continued to implement various mobile and stationary checkpoint operations in the city’s boundaries pursuant to Commission on Election (Comelec) Resolution No. 11067 that served as a critical deterrent to the transport of illegal items, enforce the necessary regulations and monitor movement of people inside and outside the city.
According to her, these operations underscores BCPO’s unwavering commitment to public safety and the rule of law that guarantees that violators of existing laws will be held accountable while the public observe the Holy Week solemnly and peacefully.
For his part, BCPO City Director Police Col. Ruel Tagel hailed the unwavering and uncompromising dedication of all police personnel in sustaining law and order in the city during the Holy Week and assured that such efforts will extend beyond the said observance and will be carried out year-round.
“While the public celebrated the season in reflection, our police personnel remained vigilant and proactive in ensuring the safety and security of the public,” Tagel stressed. By Dexter A. See
