Households are encouraged to join the Household Electronic Waste (e-waste) Collection Event on November 14-18, 2022 by bringing in their discarded appliances and electronic gadgets and other e-waste.
E-waste includes old and discarded desktops, laptops, printers, fax machines, copier machines, broken cellphones, and other household electronic devices (except busted lamps).
The activity is spearheaded by the City Government of Baguio through the City Environment and Parks Management Office and General Services Office together with the Environmental Management Bureau, United Nations Industrial Development Organizations (UNIDO), GEF,Ecowaste Coalition and Zero Waste Baguio.
The collection site will be at Pacdal Covered Court but residents can bring their wastes at their barangay halls for sorting.
The CEPMO said the event is part of the City’s initiative to improve hazardous wastes management and support the UNIDO project, “Implementation of Safe E-wastes Management.”
The project aims to raise awareness and protect human health and the environment from the harmful effects of polybrominated diphenyl ethers (PBDEs) in e-wastes.
The event is specifically held for households only as e-wastes from commercial institutions like malls, schools, telecommunications, hotel, inns, condominiums, electric cooperatives, restaurants, fast food chains, healthcare facilities and the like are covered by a separate collection system.
All barangays in the city have been enjoined to transport the materials to the collection site which will be hauled, transported and treated by DENR accredited contractors. – PIO/CEPMO
