BAGUIO CITY – City officials recently requested the City Engineering Office (CEO) and the Baguio Water District (BWD) to investigate the alleged illegal improvement of the water source of Purok 4, East Gibraltar barangay and to submit their report to the City Council within ten days upon receipt for appropriate legislative measure.
Under Resolution No. 740, series of 2024, the Committee on Laws, Human Rights and Justice, in its 2nd indorsement dated December 3, 2024, recommended that the CEO and the BWD be requested to investigate the alleged illegal improvement at the water source of Purok 4, East Gibraltar barangay and to submit their report within 10 days to the council.
Earlier, the council considered Barangay Resolution No. 74, series of 2024 of Gibraltar barangay that opposed the illegal improvement at the water source in Purok 4, East Gibraltar.
The body noted that the water source area in Purok 4 East is vital for the community’s water supply and ecological balance, thus, it is the responsibility of both the community and the barangay to protect this natural resources to ensure sustainable development practices for the benefit of the current and future generation of the barangay.
The council added that there had been reports of alleged illegal improvements and constructions in the said area that threaten both the environment and the accessibility of clean water by the residents.
Further, it emphasized that these illegal building activities violate local zoning laws and environmental regulations undermining the rule of law and community trust.
Copies of the approved resolution will be transmitted to the CEO and BWD for information, guidance, ready reference and further needed action. By Dexter A. See
