SABANGAN, Mountain Province – Former three-term Mayor Jupiter C. Dominguez is eyeing the significant improvement in the internet connectivity provincewide to help in paving the way for people to have better access in the worldwide web that will trigger digital transformation in the rural communities.
Dominguez, who is aspiring for the province’s lone congressional post in the upcoming May 9, 2022 synchronized national and local elections, stated that much had been said on the poor internet connectivity in the province over the past several years but it seems no concrete action had been done to compel the various telecommunication companies to improve their digital infrastructure that will allow better connectivity in the different parts of the province.
He pointed out that during the present digital age, connectivity plays a vital role in allowing people to have better access to up to date information that will guide them in coming out with their opinion on issues and concerns that have an effect on their lives.
The former local chief executive pointed out that concerned officials must have a strong and unified stand in making the call for telecommunication companies to improve their services in the different parts of the province which will pave the way for better connectivity to ensure that people will not be left out in the exchange of updated information on the latest developments around the world that impact on their present living condition.
According to him, while it is true that the ongoing Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) had an impact on the ongoing expansion of the telecommunication companies to the rural areas, the same must proceed now that the country has been placed under minimal health risk because of the significant decline in cases aside from the fact that people really need internet connectivity to be able to have greater access in the exchange of information to allow them to come up with right decisions in their lives in the future.
Despite being a private individual at this time, Dominguez is attempting to make the appropriate representations with top executives of telecommunications companies to get their commitment in improving internet connectivity in the province that will pave the way for improved access by the people of updated information and to help in bringing back the vibrance of online selling activities that will trigger growth and development in the future.
He is wondering why concerned officials did not pursue the previous resolution passed by the Regional Development Council (RDC) in the Cordillera that compelled telecommunication companies to improve their respective services in the province so as not to contribute in the delays in the government transactions and business activities to ensure the province’s sustainable growth in the future.
Mountain Province is one of the provinces in the Cordillera with poor internet connectivity which is the primary cause of inadequate access to updated information by the people in far flung communities who are the ones that are deprived of such that is why the RDC-CAR and concerned local governments made a unified stand to request the different telecommunication companies to improve their internet connectivity but the same remains unacted to date.
