BAGUIO CITY – The intensified police visibility operations of the Baguio City Police Office (BCPO) led to the arrest of a gun ban violator and the confiscation of illegal drugs along Rimando Road, ABCR Barangay, Baguio City on the afternoon of May 29, 2025.
Initial investigation revealed that while conducting patrol along Rimando Road, police officers spotted a man visibly carrying an improvised firearm, locally known as “sumpak”. When approached, the suspect fired the weapon on the ground, which caused his immediate arrest.
Confiscated from the 47-year-old construction worker were improvised firearm, a .38 caliber revolver, and a transparent plastic ziplock containing dried leaves suspected to be marijuana.
Appropriate charges for violations of the Omnibus Election Code (Gun Ban), Republic Act 10591 (Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunition Regulation Act), and Republic Act 9165 (Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002) are being prepared against the suspect.
PCol. Tagel stated, “A strong police presence in a community is vital for several reasons, including fostering a sense of safety, deterring crime, and building trust between law enforcement and the public.”
This operation forms part of the intensified anti-criminality campaign of the Philippine National Police in line with Chief PNP, PGen. Rommel Francisco D. Marbil’s directive to increase police visibility, and in pursuit of BCPO’s Five-Point Agenda under the leadership of City Director PCol. Ruel D. Tagel.
