LUNA, Apayao – The Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA) Apayao is inviting dependents of overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) to avail of educational assistance given to qualified dependents of active OWWA member-OFW whose salary is not more than 600 US dollars or ₱34,000.00.
Since 2016, OWWA-Apayao has consistently been giving aid to its recipients.
As of June 2024, a total of 165 grantees have benefitted from this initiative.
Fifteen incoming freshmen and fifteen currently enrolled in college are the required yearly quota. Each beneficiary receives ₱20, 000 per school year.
OWWA-Apayao urges qualified beneficiaries to avail the program, saying the evaluation is still ongoing at their regional office in Baguio City and applicants may submit their application online.
Rejoice Cabrera, Administrative Assistant in OWWA Apayao, during an interview, reminded that “Education is a powerful tool that transforms lives and open doors to endless opportunities,” reminding OWWA Scholars have the privilege of receiving quality education and training to equip them for brighter future.
Cabrera likewise encouraged the recent beneficiaries “to embrace learning with enthusiasm, curiosity and perseverance,” adding they should “take advantage of the resources and support available to you. Engage actively in your studies and nurture your skills and talents not just for yourself, but also for the betterment of your family, community, and the country.”
OWWA-Apayao is not only helping grantees financially but is also providing counselling for teenage pregnancies and trainings for them to cope with the absence of their parents. By Loremia A. Pareja
