Some thirty solo parents, thirty high school and 30 college students from barangay Irisan benefitted from the gift giving that was conducted by the Baguio Family and Friends Lions Club (BFFLC) held at the Irisan Senior Citizen’s Center last August 10, 2024.
Some 14 BFFLC members joined the said gift giving activity as part of the civic organization’s service to the members of the vulnerable and marginalized sectors of the community to inspire them to strive in hurdling the difficulties of life and become responsible and dedicated citizens.
The solo parents were able to receive from BFFLC a gift pack containing five kilos of rice each and give aways from St. Joseph Driving School while the high school and college students got gift packs containing school supplies that they could use in time for the opening of classes for schoolyear 2024-2025.
Melanie Piyawan, a solo parent and member of the Irisan Solo parents Association, expressed the group’s gratitude to the BFFLC officers and members for the gifts that were given to them, saying that such assistance will definitely go a long way for the members of their respective families, especially for their children who need the school supplies for their studies.
The solo parents and the high school and college students joined the BFFLC members in a Zumba dance number that preceded the distribution of the gifts to the identified recipients from the said barangay.
For her part, BFFLC president Joliza Kilaan urged the beneficiaries of the gift giving not to lose hope because there are civic-minded individuals and groups who are willing to extend the needed assistance to the members of the marginalized and vulnerable sectors like the solo parents to help them cope with the difficulties and challenges of present day living.
She rallied the beneficiaries to treat whatever problems that they may confront in the journey of life with utmost optimism because there are always available solutions to the challenges that they will encounter and for them to continue working hard to achieve their dreams and aspirations in life.
BFFLC members pooled their available resources to produce the gifts that were distributed to the identified beneficiaries of the solo parents group headed by Alma Sito.
The civic organization has lined up various service activities in the different parts of the city to extend whatever available assistance that may be provided to the members of the marginalized and vulnerable sectors in the different communities.
