ITOGON, Benguet – The 35th year celebration of Civil Registration Month served as a platform for launching an engaging and informative information, education, and communication campaign on Civil Registration and Vital Statistics (CRVS). The event was hosted by the Itogon Municipal Civil Registry Office in coordination with the Barangay of Ampucao, and took place on February 13, 2025, at Ampucao Barangay Hall. The initiative aimed to educate the community on the importance of civil registration and its contribution to the overall welfare of citizens.
The focus of this year’s celebration was the theme, “Building a Resilient, Agile, and Future-Fit Civil Registration and Vital Statistics System.” Registration Officer Jovieline Ambojnon gave an overview of the CRVS system, explaining the theme and its importance in modernizing the civil registration system. The theme served as the foundation for the event’s slogan- and poster-making contests, which were encouraged students to reflect on the significance of accurate civil registration and vital statistics.
Emmalyn Equinio, Statistical Specialist and Civil Registry System Baguio Outlet Supervisor from the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) Regional Statistical Services Office of the Cordillera Administrative Region (CAR), presented on the Basic Concepts and Definition of Civil Registration. She also provided valuable insights into the various PSA Frontline Services available to the public, including birth, death, marriage, and other vital event registrations. The presentation helped attendees better understand the integral role these services play in everyday life.
The event saw active participation from elementary and high school students from Ampucao Elementary School and Ampucao National High School, who played a crucial role in its success. These students showcased their creativity and knowledge of CRVS by participating in the slogan- and poster-making contests. Facilitated by the Local Civil Registry Office, in collaboration with the PSA Provincial Statistical Office of Benguet, the contests aimed to engage the younger generation in meaningful conversations about civil registration and its importance to society.
Through its various activities, the event highlighted the essential role civil registration plays in every individual’s life. By engaging both students and the wider community, the celebration fostered a deeper understanding of the CRVS system and its broader significance. The active involvement of the youth in the contests reflected a growing enthusiasm for civil registration issues among the younger generation.
The partnership between the Itogon Municipal Civil Registrar’s Office, PSA-Benguet, and PSA CAR proved to be highly successful, leaving a lasting impact on the community. The event not only raised awareness about the importance of civil registration but also underscored the need for accurate vital statistics. It created an inclusive platform for students and the public to contribute to ongoing discussions and further the conversation about CRVS.
