LA TRINIDAD, Benguet – The Office of the President declared Saturday, July 15, 2017 as a special non-working holiday in the Cordillera Administrative Region (CAR) in time for the celebration of the region’s 30th founding anniversary.
Proclamation No. 247 dated July 5, 2017 signed by Executive Secretary Salvador C. Medialdea cited that it is but fitting and proper for the people of the CAR be given the full opportunity to celebrate and participate in the occasion of celebrating the region’s founding anniversary through fitting ceremonies, thus, the declaration of July 15, 2017 as a special non-working day in the region.
By July 15, 2017, the host local government, Benguet Province, and the host agency, the Cordillera office of the National Commission on Indigenous Peoples (NCIP-CAR), were able to prepare a fitting program which will be held at the Wangal Sports Complex in La Trinidad, Benguet wherein delegations from all over the region will be joining the celebration.
The July 15 activities will kick off with a parade of the delegations from the Benguet Provincial Capital up to the Wangal Sports Complex where the main program will be held.
Executive Order No. 220 issued by former President Corazon C. Aquino on July 15, 1987 created the CAR which is composed of the provinces of Abra, Benguet, Mountain Province and the City of Baguio from Region I and the provinces of Ifugao and Kalinga and Apayao from Region II.
The theme of this year’s celebration is “CAR@30: A Celebration of Cordillera Unity” which seeks to bind the Cordillerans in advancing the region’s renewed quest for regional autonomy.
