Demonstrating its dedication to enhancing the agricultural and entrepreneurial skills of farmers, SM Foundation, Inc. (SMFI) recently inaugurated the Benguet Sites for the Kabalikat sa Kabuhayan on Sustainable Agriculture Program (KSK-SAP). The initiative was led by Ms. Cristie Angeles, SM Foundation’s Assistant Vice President for Livelihood and Outreach Programs.
Beginning with its launch in Sitio Liwliw, Barangay Camp 4, Tuba Benguet on January 30, 2024, the program has been extended to Barangay Bayabas, Sablan Benguet and Happy Hollow, Baguio City.
The local farmer-beneficiaries will undergo a one-phased program designed to equip participants with essential skills and knowledge in agriculture which will be spearheaded by its partner school, Lily of the Valley Organic Farm.
After the training, SMFI will also support farmers in forming their groups, helping them establish a farming community that is both sustainable and profitable.
This assistance, facilitated by partner agencies such as SM Supermalls, SM Market, TESDA, DA, DSWD, DOST, DTI, LGU and partner farm schools, is designed to enhance their earning capacity and contribute to economic growth.
Since its establishment in 2007, KSK-SAP has supported over 30,000 marginalized farmers with 305 KSK batches to date. This assistance spans rural and urban areas nationwide, empowering farmers with enhanced entrepreneurial and farming capabilities. Consequently, several graduates of the program have transformed into seasonal suppliers for the SM group and other local markets.
