LUNA, Apayao – The Annual celebration of Elderly Week in Kabugao was held and featured cultural competitions, such as Search for Best in Native Attire, Best in Casual Wear and Best in Filipiñana Wear.
Held on October 10 at the Poblacion Dionisio S. Agudelo Gymnasium, the significant event was made to honor the community’s senior citizens and to recognize them as pillars of the community who continue to inspire younger generations.
In line with this year’s theme, “Senior Citizens-Building the Nation, Inspiring Generation,” Municipal Federation of Senior Citizen President, Mrs. Aida Baloran-Dangao highlighted the pivotal role the elderly play in shaping the values and traditions of society.
Baloran-Dangao said the celebration was more than just a day of festivities; it was an acknowledgment of their senior citizens’ journey and contributions to their own families and service to the community.
Moreover, as part of the program, Dr. Yema Grace D. Papa of the Provincial Health Office conducted a seminar and provided insightful lectures promoting optimal oral health to address oral health needs, good nutrition and other health needs of elderly as well as to provide them with crucial information to maintain healthy smiles and overall well-being.
These lectures include the Importance of Oral Health in the Elderly-Impact on General Health, Nutrition, and Quality of Life, Common Oral Health Issues – tooth decay, gum disease, oral cancer, and denture-related problems, and Recommendation on Oral Care Practices – daily oral hygiene, regular dental check-ups, dietary considerations, and hydration.
Meantime, the winners of the different cultural competitions during the celebration are as follows: Best in Native Attire- Mrs. Evelyn Haddac Adaway, Best in Casual Wear- Mrs. Arsie Ulayan, and Best in Filipiñana Wear- Mrs. Carmelita T. Era. By Ginlayn Gapusan
