BONTOC, Mountain Province – The Katuwang sa Diwa at Gawa para sa Masaganang Ani at Mataas na Kita (KADIWA) ng Pangulo (KNP) initiative has officially been launched in this capital town on August 19, 2024, at the Municipal Capitol Grounds.
A project of the Department of Agriculture (DA) in partnership with the Local Government Units (LGUs), the KNP initiative continues to serve its purpose of providing accessible and affordable food commodities for Filipinos to cushion and counter the effects of global inflation. With hundreds of outlets nationwide, many Filipino farmers, fishermen and small business owners are able to earn more through a direct farm-to-market consumer trade. Local farmers from the four zones, including the Central, ALBAGO, Riverside, and Upland Zones, participated in the event. They showcased a wide range of products, from fresh vegetables and fruits and other agricultural produce.
In a separate interview, Bontoc Mayor Jerome “Chagsen” Tudlong, Jr., expressed his optimism about the program’s potential to enhance the local economy and support sustainable agricultural practices. He highlighted the importance of community involvement in making the initiative a success and encouraged both producers and consumers to actively participate in the monthly activity.
Mayor Tudlong also emphasized that the KNP is in line with the municipality’s broader goals of promoting food security and economic development, noting that this initiative is a step towards a more self-sufficient and resilient community.
The KNP will be held regularly every second Monday of the month, providing a consistent platform for local producers to sell their goods and for consumers to access fresh, affordable products. By Christy Mae C. Pangesfan
