TABUK CITY, Kalinga – The Department of Agriculture-Cordillera Administrative Region (DA-CAR) and the Office of the Presidential Adviser on Peace, Reconciliation, and Unity (OPAPRU) awarded P7,600,000.00 worth of agri-related livelihood interventions to the communities of Bagumbayan and Nambaran in Tabuk City; Mangali Centro in Tanudan; and, Bangad Centro and Maswa-Basao in Tinglayan, under the Sustainable and Inclusive Peace and Transformation (SIPAT) Project recently.
The awarded agri-interventions which include micro-tillers, rice threshers, shredders, barbwires, grasscutters, cattles, and carabaos are in support of rice production, both commercial and heirloom rice, in the province.
Director Susana Marcaida, OIC-Office of the Deputy for Peace, Reconciliation and Unity, elaborated that with the community-based approach of the project together with the appropriate and due identification of interventions, the project will be more successful. She also emphasized that the interventions were chosen by the communities themselves through a series of process.
Moreover, in his written message, DA-CAR Regional Executive Director Cameron P. Odsey urged and challenged the farmers to take good care of the interventions. ‘Usaren tayo nga nasayaat dagitoy. Ibingay tayo kadagiti dadduma ta mas adu pay ti mabenipisyuan,’ he added.
Governor James Edduba also expressed that the projects should gear towards a progressive Kalinga. With the partnership of the different agencies, he remarked, ‘Joining together is working together.’
Meanwhile, the beneficiaries also expressed their gratitude and unified that they would take good care of the interventions and lead the communities to prosperity.
Agnes Balawan, farmer-beneficiary, expressed, “Lubos po ang aming pasasalamat sa ibinigay ninyong livelihood project. Napakalaking tulong ito para sa mga kasama namin. When the carabaos were delivered to us, it was like a dream come true, it was not merely an exchange of words.”
The Tabuk City Government Unit and Agriculture Office were also present during the awarding ceremony and echoed the offices’ support towards the agriculture activities in the city.
The SIPAT Project harmonizes the efforts of various agencies and instrumentalities to ensure the reduction of poverty and vulnerability in conflict-affected areas through the provision of various agri-related livelihood interventions. By JMDayao
