TABUK CITY, Kalinga – The Vitagreen Rural Improvement Club (RIC) of Tabuk City, Kalinga has been officially validated as a national finalist in the 2025 Gawad Saka Search under the Rural Improvement Club category. The validation took place on April 1, 2025, conducted by a national team from the Department of Agriculture (DA).
Established in 2016 with an initial membership of 15, Vitagreen RIC has since grown to 27 members, all of whom are empowered women dedicated to agricultural and community development.
The evaluation team included representatives from the Bureau of Soils and Water Management, Agricultural Training Institute, Philippine Council for Agriculture and Fisheries, and Agribusiness and Marketing Assistance Service. The validation aimed to assess the club’s achievements, community involvement, and economic contributions in line with the competition’s criteria.
Director Gina Nilo, team leader of the evaluation committee, commended Vitagreen RIC for reaching the national finalist stage.
“This achievement reflects your dedication and hard work. You are an inspiration in advancing the goals of Masaganang Bagong Pilipinas,” she remarked.
She also emphasized that the validation process was not just about assessment but also an opportunity for growth.
“We are here to help you improve, not to judge you. This is a platform for learning and strengthening your organization,” she added.
Meanwhile, Judy Gallardo, Principal of Laya West Elementary School, endorsed Vitagreen RIC for the prestigious search, citing their exceptional management of the school’s communal garden and their consistent support for Brigada Eskwela.
“Despite some members not having children enrolled in the school, they actively contribute to its improvement. Their commitment to community service is truly commendable,” she noted.
The evaluation criteria for the Gawad Saka RIC category include: Organizational Management (40%); Economic Activities and Performance (35%); and, Social Involvement in Communities (25%).
The Gawad Saka Search is an annual initiative by the Department of Agriculture that recognizes outstanding individuals and organizations contributing to the advancement of Philippine agriculture.
Other national finalists in the RIC category include Regions IV-A, IX, and II. Only one winner will be declared, receiving a project grant worth PHP 450,000 and a cash prize of PHP 50,000.
