La Trinidad – The Knights of Columbus – Cathedral diffused a third quarter rally by the Perpetual Help of Buguias to stay atop the standings in the Corinthian Division while the La Trinidad Public Marketers had to do the same against a furious fourth quarter rally by Sacred Heart in the 3rd season of the Laity Cup last July 8, 2015 at the San Jose Gym here.
Paul Vincent Moltio knocked in three triples enroute to 11 points in the third to thwart a rally by the Perpetual Helpers. The Helpers, down 44-33 at the half, started attacking the basket and employing pressure defense at the start of the third and got positive results and stayed looking at manageable single digit leads. Moltio, with the backing of Jojo Bajum’s seven points, ignited a late third quarter barrage to permanently pull away from the tight game eventually winning, 91-73.
The Marketers followed the same path. They built a seemingly comfortable 61-45 third quarter lead against Sacred Heart. Jonathan Raet then lead fourth quarter burst to narrow the gap to just six, time down to 4 minutes.
Denver Quidez then made a key triple while Adonis Dicksen connected on a key drive play to ensure the win.
In the first game, the Swordsmen defeated the Latter Day Saints by forfeiture.
