TABUK CITY, Kalinga – The College of Business Administration and Accountancy (CBAA) of Kalinga State University (KSU) successfully conducted a two-days comprehensive Bookkeeping and Financial Literacy Seminar aimed at empowering local community leaders and members of Barangay Ipil. These initiatives are the “Empowering Financial Literacy: Expanding the Frontiers of Sustainable Development for Diverse Barangay Organizations,” and “Capacitating Barangay Capabilities in Bookkeeping and Business Technical Writing to Achieve Sustainability in Financial Reporting” which are part of the university’s ongoing extension activities designed to enhance the financial management skills of local organizations.
The seminar, held at the Barangay Hall of Ipil, attracted 100 participants, including representatives from various people’s organizations (POs) and barangay employees. The program commenced with an opening address by Willy Bumosao, followed by an inspiring speech from Barangay Captain Hon. Tolentino Batalao, who expressed his full support for the activity. The seminar was divided into several informative sessions, each focusing on key aspects of financial literacy and bookkeeping facilitated by the faculty of CBAA who specialized with the topic.
The event kicked off with an overview of the extension activity, followed by a comprehensive discussion on bookkeeping, emphasizing the crucial role importance of financial literacy in the success and sustainability of POs. This was followed by a discussion of the intricacies of setting financial goals within an organization, covering topics such as income projection, expense estimation, and budget allocation, after which the seminar concluded by the sharing of a former barangay secretary, highlighting the significance of transparency and accountability in resource allocation and management based on her experience.
The participants engaged enthusiastically in the discussions, reflecting the community’s eagerness to learn and improve their financial practices. The seminar not only provided valuable knowledge but also fostered a sense of empowerment among the participants, equipping them with the skills needed to better manage their organizations and contribute to their community’s sustainable development.
The initiative aligns with KSU’s commitment to community service and sustainable development. By enhancing the financial literacy and bookkeeping knowledge of local organizations, the university aims to support the economic growth and social well-being of the community.
