LA TRINIDAD, Benguet – The municipal government will allow the operation of computer shops in the different barangays following the commitment of owners that they will adhere to the stringent health and safety protocols during the implementation of the prevailing community quarantine up to the end of the month.
Mayor Romeo K. Salda said computer shops will only be allowed to operate for important research works of residents and other printing jobs while the playing of games will still be strictly be prohibited.
However, the operation of the computer shops will still be dependent on the recommendation of the task force because of the need for them to adhere to the guidelines after the conduct of the required inspection of their establishments.
Under the established rules and regulations, computer shops must make the necessary adjustments to ensure the compliance of the shops to the policy on physical distancing among the patrons of the said establishments.
The municipal chief executive claimed there are some computer shops that even if there will be a significant reduction on the number of computer units inside the said establishments, the same cannot still qualify for operation that is why the operation of the shops will be in a case to case basis upon the recommendation of the task force members.

According to him, computer shop owners must comply with their commitments to enforce the basic health and safety protocols, such as the mandatory wearing of face masks among the patrons and the provision of sanitizers or alcohol, apart from making available foot baths outside the shop.
He asserted computer shop owners should learn to obey the rules so as not to be criticized by barangay officials who have time and again claimed that they are against the operation of the shops because it is just waste of time to monitor them as they always engage them in a cat and mouse play which is disappointing on their part because of the lack of sincerity of the shop owners to fulfill their commitments.
Earlier, computer shop owners appealed to the municipal inter-agency task force on emerging and re-emerging infectious diseases that they will be allowed to operate during the modified community quarantine as they committed to comply with the stringent rules and regulations and physical distancing among computer shop goers.
Mayor Salda appealed to the computer shop owners and patrons to strictly obey what had been agreed upon during the previous meetings so that the task force will not be compelled to recommend for the eventual closure of the said establishments once there will be erring computer shop owners who will continue to defy lawful orders because barangay officials and personnel of the La Trinidad Municipal Police Station as well as the women’s brigade will closely monitor their operations.
The municipal mayor stated that the operation of computer shops should also adhere to the prevailing curfew in the municipality and that they will not be allowed to operate on Sundays which is lockdown day in the municipality.
