LA TRINIDAD, Benguet – Several offices of the municipal government recently got their brand-new vehicles that were procured by concerned government agencies and the municipality to help enhance the delivery of basic services to the residents.
Mayor Romeo K. Salda and other municipal officials led the turnover of the said service vehicles to the recipients during simple rites held at the municipal grounds.
The said service vehicles included a police patrol car for the La Trinidad Municipal Police Station, a brand-new ambulance for the La Trinidad fire station and a service vehicle for the municipal health office.
Mayor Salda disclosed that the municipal government earmarked some P1.3 million for the purchase of the service vehicle intended for the municipal health office while the local government requested the police patrol car from Philippine National Police (PNP) chief Gen. Rodolfo Azurin, Jr. where the PNP allotted P1.9 million for the procurement of the same.
Further, the ambulance worth P3 million was a request of the municipal government from the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) to equip the municipal fire station with adequate equipment and vehicles for efficient and effective response to calls for emergency from residents living in the town’s 16 barangays.
The local chief executive expressed the gratitude of the people and officialdom of the municipality to PNP chief Gen. Azurin and the BFP for granting the request of the local government for the provision of additional service vehicles for the vital offices that are based in the locality to ensure the timely response to calls for assistance from residents during emergency situations.
According to him, the local government will continue to closely work with concerned government agencies and other stakeholders to ensure that the appropriate support will be extended to the municipality to sustain the gains of the enhanced delivery of basic services to the people in the various barangays.
La Trinidad is the center of trade and commerce in Benguet because of its proximity to Baguio city which is one of the premier tourist destinations in the country, thus, it is now becoming a preferred destination by tourists wanting to explore other tourist spots outside the Summer Capital.
Benguet’s capital town is known for the mass production of strawberries where the strawberry farm is serving as one of the major tourist attractions in the municipality aside from the cutflower farms in barangay Bahong and various trekking destinations, Agri-tourism farms among others.
Mayor Salda also expressed hope that the local tourism industry will be able to immediately recover from the heavy impact inflicted by the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic so that displaced workers will be able to get back their jobs or find new employment for them to be able to have a sustained source of income to contribute in uplifting the living condition of their families.
