LA TRINIDAD, Benguet – The municipal government reported that more than P39 million worth of donations in cash or in kind were received by the municipality that helped sustain the provision of relief assistance to heavily impacted residents in the town’s 16 barangays during the implementation of the community quarantine to combat the possible rapid spread of the dreaded Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19).
Mayor Romeo K. Salda disclosed that the report of the accepted donations was as of June while the municipal government’s operation center is still facilitating the accounting of the donations that were received in July and August to support future reports.
He added most of the donations were given in kind that augmented the procured relief goods by the municipal government that were distributed to the residents in the different barangays, especially at the height of the implementation of the Luzon-wide lockdown.
The municipal chief executive asked kind-hearted individuals and groups they are welcome to donate any resource that can be used by the municipal government in the implementation of continuous relief operations to indigent residents who are still significantly affected by the ongoing implementation of community quarantine.

According to him, donations in cash or in kind can be turned over to the operations center for proper documentation and appropriate acknowledgement for their good deeds.
“We appreciate the donations that came from our kind-hearted individuals and groups inside and outside the municipality. Words are not enough to express our gratitude but we are really overwhelmed by the support they had provided to the municipal government for us to sustain our relief operations for our heavily impacted residents,” Mayor Salda stressed.
He assured the people that the records of the donations are transparent and appropriately accounted for pursuant to existing rules and regulations and in accordance with the outstanding policy of the present administration for transparency and good governance in the bureaucracy.
The municipal mayor cited that in the prevailing crisis situation, the best of the people had emerged as evidenced by the influx of donations by donors for the benefit of the heavily impacted residents whose employment or sources of livelihood had been compromised because of the enforcement of the community quarantine rules and regulations.
He also appreciated the gesture of some of the donors who wanted to be anonymous in donating huge amounts of cash and big volumes of goods that were turned over to the operations center of the municipal government since the start of the community quarantine last March when it was announced that donations are accepted.
Salda appealed to philanthropists to continue assisting people battle the deadly virus as this will not be over in the next several months and residents still need help to be able to recover from the impact of the pandemic to their sources of livelihood.
He stated he understands the possibility there can be donor fatigue but efforts are still being done to ensure that the municipal government will be able to help the impacted residents based on resources available in the municipality.
