LA TRINDAD, Benguet – Fifteen pairs of young artists from the different secondary schools in the municipality actively participated in the recent mural contest held at the municipal park to embed artistry in the festivities of this year’s Strawberry festival.
The month-long celebration of La Trinidad’s Strawberry Festival includes the mural contest, which is held annually to encourage the youth to showcase their creativity and talent.
The event also aims to support their artistic journey.
“This can help encourage the youth to participate in this event to promote their artworks and expose themselves so that they will be globally competitive,” the Committee chairman and the focal person of the event, Charles Tayaban, said.
He further explained that the theme of this year’s festival, “Semek La Trinidad,” which is an Ibaloy term for Love La Trinidad, should resonate in the murals.
The winners of the event received a cash prize. The first placers were from King’s College of the Philippines, Kyle Dwayne Kepes and Alexis Vera Alfaro, who received ₱4,000 each, while the second placers were from Immaculate Heart of Mary School, Cobi Topiagon and Zaphira Tumayan, who received ₱3,000 each. The third placers, Ruby Janea Bernardo and Jessa Leung from King’s College of the Philippines, also received a cash prize amounting to ₱2,000 each. They will be recognized during the awarding ceremony on March 28. By Lyka Capsula
