STA. MARCELA, Apayao April 30 – A 52-year old construction worker died after he allegedly drowned in the Apayao River at Sipa, here, Sunday.
Police authorities identified the fatality as Efren Lawangen Subang, 52 years old, married, construction worker, and a resident of barangay Sipa, Sta. Marcela Apayao.
Initial police investigation showed that the victim and his nephews went to have a picnic and drinking session along the river bank.
However, the victim and one of his younger nephews decided to ride on a boat and proceeded towards the center of the river.
At this juncture, the victim allegedly dove into the water and never re-surfaced that prompted his nephew to seek assistance until his body was recovered an hour later.
The victim was rushed to the Sta. Marcela District Hospital for medical treatment but he was declared dead on arrival by attending physicians.
