BONTOC, Mountain Province December 08 – A 35-year old labourer died ater he was shot by a mounted animal trap locally known as ‘balais’when they went to hunt for wild animals at Mount Vellas, Talubin here around 10:30 am Monday.
Senior Superintendent Oliver Enmodias, provincial director of the Mountain Province Police Office, identified the victim as Glenn G. Ngallawen, 35 y/o, married, laborer, and a resident of Doddo, Talubin, Bontoc, Mountain Province.
Initial police investigation showed the victim, together with his cousins, went to the said place purposely to hunt and check on the animal rope trap locally known as ‘silo’ when the same accidentally triggered the bursting of the trap that him on his left thigh.
Responding villagers immediately brought the victim to their residence while the recovered homemade firearm measuring about 25 inches was turned over to responding elements of the Bontoc Municipal Police Station.
Dr. Diga Kay Gomez, the Municipal Health Officer who examined the victim revealed that the victim’s death was due to gunshot on his left thigh, massive blood loss and hypovolemic shock.
Further investigation revealed that the person who allegedly installed the trap was one Eliseo Amsiwen, 38, married, native of Barlig, Mountain Province, and a resident of Bayyo, Bontoc who immediately fled from their residence after knowing the incident.
