BAGUIO CITY – An 18-year-old construction worker died after he was allegedly stabbed to death by a 16-year-old minor while walking at the U-shaped overpass at the intersection of Magsaysay Avenue, Harrison Road and Abanao Street, here, Sunday dawn.
Police authorities identified the fatality as Mark Joshua Reyes, 18, a construction worker at the Canyon Hill, Tiptop, Pacdal, Baguio City and a native of Kaingin, Bongabong, Nueva Ecija while the minor suspect is said to be a resident of Purok 5. Kias, Baguio City.
Probers disclosed that the victim and his companions were walking along the U-shaped overpass when they reportedly passed by the group of the suspect.
For still unknown reasons, the minor suspect allegedly stabbed the victim several times that caused his companions to scamper for safety before the former fled towards an undisclosed direction.
Concerned bystanders and some of the victim’s companions immediately rushed him to the Baguio General Hospital and Medical Center (BGHMC) for medical treatment but he eventually expired while undergoing close medical attention by the attending physicians.
The suspect was arrested by combined police operatives at Betag, La Trinidad, Benguet during the conduct of a follow-up operation and is now under the custody of the Baguio City Police Office (BCPO)and the City Social Welfare and Development office (CSWDO) awaiting the filing of the appropriate charges against him.
The motive of the stabbing incident is yet unknown pending the conduct of further investigation by the police investigators. By Dexter A. See
