City officials approved the institutionalization of the Laro Para Sa Lahat program in the city as part of the celebration of the International Day of Persons with Disabilities (PWDs) every 3rd day of December every year.
Under Resolution No. 604, series of 2022, local legislators stated that the event could also be a venue for the city government to select promising and qualifying para-athletes to represent the city in the local, regional, national and international Paralympics.
During the Scout Officials for A Day (SOFAD) regular session held on November 7, 2022, the SOFAD Council adopted the proposal of SOFAD Councilor Sam Lawrence B. Cadiente that pushed for the institutionalization of the Laro Para Sa Lahat program in the city.
The council claimed that Baguio City does not only live up to its moniker as being the education center of the north, but has also been producing top performing athletes and champions in the national and international sporting events.
According to the body, the Laro Para Sa Lahat program has its purpose to encourage members of the PWD sector to be more active in sports.
The said program is a sporting event exclusively for the PWDs like para-games in almost every sports discipline that a PWD can actually join. It is a one-day event which shall be held every 3rd day of December every year during the celebration of International Day of PWDs.
The council tasked every barangay in the city to conduct a symposium to promote sports among PWs which shall be organized by the Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) chairpersons and that the resource persons should be coaches from the different fields of sports.
Moreover, the council requested the City Sports Council to help in the said venture by coming up with the brochures or leaflets that briefly outline all the needed information for the PWDs to be well informed on the conduct of this sporting event exclusively devoted for them.
