BAGUIO CITY — Replacement planting and tree care for all advocacy groups are encouraged for the upcoming celebration of the city’s Saleng Festival 2025 in an effort to mitigate climate change from June to September this year.
The fifth Saleng Festival was successfully launched after the new Philippine flag rose up from the flagpole recently.
Saleng, a Kankana-ey word meaning “the resin of the pine tree’s bark” and used to ignite campfires or traditional ovens inside of the Benguet homes, also symbolizes the importance of trees throughout the duration of the festival.
The Philippine Environmental Month would be celebrated in June wherein the Free Emission Testing and Pantree Event shall be held on Sundays.
The World Environment Day, an international gathering to raise environmental awareness, would be held on June 5th by the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) with the Republic of Korea hosting the said event for this year.
It is followed by the World Day to Combat Desertification and Drought on June 17 and the observation of Arbor Day on June 25 in accordance with Presidential Proclamation No. 643 and Republic Act No. 10176 by planting tree saplings.
Green Business Expo will be held on August 18 to 22 and followed by the Saleng Tree Cart Parade and Exhibit on September 1st.
The venues and times for each event has yet to be announced but is ensured to push through for the city of Baguio.
The winners of the Eco Fashion Show were also awarded with certificates of recognition as they showed their strengths in creating aesthetically pleasing and wearable items from recycled materials after the old Philippine flag had retired and the new flag was raised to replace its predecessor and fulfill its role.
