SAN FERNANDO CITY, La Union – Joint operatives from the different police units in Region 1, in coordination with the lawmen in Region 8, have arrested a most wanted person in Barangay Magsaysay, Palompon, Leyte province.
PLTCOL Dominic Guerrero, officer–in–charge of the Regional Mobile Force Battalion (RFMB) of Police Regional Office 1 (PRO1), confirmed on Wednesday the successful capture of Joselito Lumapas on November 27, 2022.
Lumapas was listed by the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) as a most wanted person with a monetary reward amounting to P140,000.00 for his capture.
He is the primary suspect in the murder of Rizaldo Oiguan y Merindo and Aida Oiguan y Merindo on October 13, 2018, at about 4:40 PM at Barangay Nangalisan, Infanta, Pangasinan.
The suspect reportedly escaped and hid in Leyte province after the incident.
Guerrero said the suspect was arrested by virtue of the warrant of arrest issued by Hon. Loreto Alog Jr., presiding judge of Regional Trial Court Branch 70, Burgos, Pangasinan dated April 22, 2020, with criminal case numbers B-1408 and B-1409 for the crime of murder with no recommended bail bond.
According to Guerrero, the arresting lawmen are turning over the suspect to the issuing court of his warrant of arrest after he was brought to Manuel B. Veloso Memorial Hospital for medical examination and subsequently to Palompon Municipal Police Station (MPS) for proper documentation and disposition.
