Arbor Day in the Philippines has been institutionalized to be observed every June 25 nationwide, by planting trees and ornamental plants and other forms of relevant environmental activities. Lepanto actively participated in this meaningful event by planting a total of 1,500 Benguet Pine Tree seedlings in Barangay Sapid, with the help of its employees, contractors and community members.
For years, Lepanto has been supportive of the National Greening Program of DENR through its reforestation projects. Lepanto’s reforestation program started decades ago, and has planted over 6.5 million trees over an area of 800 hectares. Every milestone or important occasion in Lepanto is marked by tree planting activity.
Reforestation and other environmental related activities are embodied in the Lepanto’s Annual Environmental Protection and Enhancement Program (EPEP) approved by the Mine Rehabilitation Fund Committee (MRFC-LCMC).
