City officials recently congratulated and commended the Baguio student-athletes and their coaches for winning as second runner-up under the junior league baseball division in the 2023 Little League Philippine Series National Championship held in Ilagan City, Isabela last April 8-16, 2023.
In a resolution, local legislators stated that the outstanding performance of local student-athletes with the unwavering and uncompromising support of their coaches and parents have portrayed unquestionable discipline and sports excellence perfected through years of training and dedication that serves as an inspiration for the whole country and are worthy of emulation to the people of the nation and to the city, especially to the youth.
Earlier, the Baguio City Little League Baseball Team had been performing well in the different sports competitions not only in the different parts of the region but also in various areas around the country.
Further, the Baguio baseball team is also considered as one of the top teams in Luzon during the conduct of the 2023 Little League Philippine Series qualifiers under the junior league division baseball in Ilagan City, Isabela last February 5-12, 2023.
During the conduct of the Philippine Series National Finals last April 8-16, 2023, the Baguio city Little League Junior Baseball Team emerged victorious over baseball teams from Kidapawan, Northern Leyte and Manila.
The Little League Philippine Series is the largest baseball and softball tournament in the country with over 1,500 students ages 8-16 competing for the right to represent the country in the Asia-Pacific Regional Tournament to be held in July 2023 in South Korea and the World Series in the United States of America.
The Baguio Little League junior baseball team landed second runner-up after the 10-day tournament during the said national championships; after 3 decades, Baguio made history in Philippine baseball being hailed as the top 3 team in the whole country.
The council claimed that the Baguio athletes and their coaches emerged victorious on their campaign and garnered the coveted bronze medal for the team and the city that is worth commending.
Composing the winning team are Carl Joshua Daluson, Edmar Emeterio, JV Harrows Aguilar, Jahnber Kidd Aguilar, Kyle Ezekiel Dalang, Audrian Sawate, Joekhaled Diamsay, Jhazel Matt Ferrer, Ron Aljade Yapit, Aviell Mendoza, Genesis Luna, Jarex Bugtong, Kurt Julian Espino, Fercie Bhal Cristobal Ngalluban, Gian Khen Lapena, Larry Focasan and Nathaniel Isaac Ortega.
On the other hand, the coaches and staff include Rafael Lapena, head coach, Bernardino Danglay, assistant coach, Mark Batasan, assistant coach, Harris Dinamling, coaching staff, Randy Lapena, coaching staff, Garwageo Angelito, coaching staff and Clyde Alindeg, coaching staff.
